Maruti Suzuki Adds Turbo-Petrol Power to the Brezza Line-up
Maruti Suzuki has expanded the Brezza range in India with the introduction of a new Turbo Boosterjet variant, bringing turbocharged petrol power to the compact SUV for the first time. The updated model also receives revised styling, additional technology and a wider list of safety features.
The headline change is the introduction of a 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbocharged petrol engine. Producing 109 bhp and 170 Nm of torque, the engine is paired exclusively with a six-speed manual gearbox. Maruti Suzuki claims the powertrain returns a fuel economy of 20.47km/l.
The existing 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine remains part of the range. Equipped with Dual Jet Dual VVT and the brand's Smart Hybrid system, it is available with either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic with paddle shifters.
The company has also retained the CNG option, which now features a revised fuel tank layout beneath the vehicle to preserve luggage space while offering a claimed efficiency of 26.9km/kg.
Exterior updates are subtle rather than extensive. The revised Brezza gets a redesigned front grille finished in smoke chrome, updated skid plates, new dual-tone body cladding and freshly designed alloy wheels. Turbo variants can also be identified by dedicated exterior badging.
Inside, Maruti Suzuki has introduced a new brown-and-black cabin theme along with leatherette upholstery and revised dashboard finishes. A larger 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system now takes centre stage, supporting wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connected car functions, built-in voice assistance and over-the-air software updates.
Other additions include ventilated front seats, a wireless phone charger with cooling function, ambient lighting and a PM2.5 cabin air filtration system.
Safety equipment has also been expanded. Depending on the variant, the Brezza is now available with blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, tyre pressure monitoring, exit warning, emergency stop signal, an upgraded 360-degree camera and front as well as rear parking sensors. The SUV has also been developed to comply with five-star Bharat NCAP safety standards.
The updated Brezza will be offered in two new exterior colours—Vivacious Orange and Lustrous Beige—alongside the existing paint options. Buyers can also choose from three factory accessory packages designed to give the SUV a sportier, more rugged or urban appearance.
The arrival of the Turbo Boosterjet broadens the Brezza range by offering buyers an alternative to the existing naturally aspirated and CNG powertrains.
While Maruti Suzuki is yet to reveal whether the new turbocharged engine will be introduced in other models, the Brezza becomes the first compact SUV in its portfolio to receive the Boosterjet powertrain in its latest form.
